the/das ist ein aus der formation bodi bill hervorgegangenes musikprojekt von fabian fenk (gesang) und philipp koller (elektronik, mix), das 2012 in berlin gegrŸndet wurde. der bandname soll eine neutrale bedeutung haben und in keine bestimmte richtung verweisen. ihren sound nennen die beiden techno tenderness, was in etwa chilliger afterhour-musik bzw. new romantic house entspricht. diesen fanden die geneigten hšrer auf bislang Ÿber einer handvoll veršffentlichungen, darunter der lp -freezer- von 2014. dessen innig ersehnter nachfolger erscheint auf dem italienischen, von dj tennis gefŸhrten label life and death. wŠhrend bei frŸheren releases eher der homelistening-aspekt betont wurde, gibt das produzentenduo auf -exit strategies- verstŠrkt clubfreundliche seiten von sich preis. dafŸr vermengen die zwei ziemlich geschickt, geschmackssicher und facettenreich ursprŸnglichen techno berliner prŠgung und organische soundschleifen miteinander und wŸrzen das ganze mit verspielten kinematografischen details. ein aufwŠndiges verfahren, dessen umsetzung von losen skizzen Ÿber die ersten arrangements und immer wieder neuen †berarbeitungen bis zum finalen mix im studio rund drei jahre dauerte.
der soundtrack von jim williams zum umstrittenen, verstšrenden, modernen kannibalen-horror-schocker raw von regisseurin julia ducournau in einer belgisch franzšsischen produktion, der bei den filmfestspielen in cannes 2016 premiere feierte und 2017 in die kinos kam. die europŠische lp-ausgabe erscheint auf grŸnem 180g vinyl.
clark verschnŸrt auf death peak die verschiedenen strŠnge seines bisherigen outputs, wenn er die euphorischen melodien und rhythmen der warehouse-raves mit neuen gesangs und chor-arrangements verknŸpft.ndeath peak- legt somit das spannungsfeld offen, auf dem clarks musikalisches vokabular basiert: -ich liebe es einfach, diesen wendepunkt zu finden zwischen zwei gegensŠtzen die stelle, an der es kippt. meine tracks sollen scharfe zŠhne haben, aber man soll sie trotzdem auch noch streicheln wollen. sie klingen klassisch, uralt, aber scheinen aus der zukunft hierher gebeamt zu sein, sanft und doch zerstšrerisch.

this is a textured soundscape energized by drums that might sound inspired from the influences of the past but are clearly crafted with sounds pulled from the future. from here we arrive at prisms, an interlude that at first seems relaxed until you realize that with just a combination of arpeggiated synths, percussive elements and noises plucked from the ether you are smack in the middle of a piece of music that somehow wraps its emotion around a moving image that moves you with it.
